Manchester United are apparently hours away from completing the sigining of the Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez.

The Spaniard's mother has reportedly told the Spanish media that Pedro is on his way to England. Sky Sports reported that United's vice-chairman Ed Woodward has already locked in talks with Barcelona.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal would leave no stones unturned for the forthcoming season of English Premier league (EPL) that starts on Saturday, 8 August. The United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in their first game of the league. But before that, Van Gaal and Woodward are taking desperate measures to bolster their team so that they set their course for winning the EPL title for the record 21st time.

This summer transfer window has been lucrative for the United as they have managed to complete the signings of most of their targets. What they need now is a forward who will replace the likes of Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao. Angel di Maria has also been allowed to leave the club this summer and Argentine winger is supposed to join Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) with a fee of £44.3m, which the French club has agreed.

Pedro will be an ideal replacement for Di Maria as he will take no time to fit in the former's shoes. His eye for goal and excellent dribbling abilities will make him gel well with Memphis Depay and Wayne Rooney in the forward line.

Pedro has scored 15 goals in 28 starts in the 2013-2014 season for Barcelona and he was also the member of the World Cup-winning Spanish squad in 2010. The presence of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez has denied him the opportunity of starting the first XI and now according to reports, he is seeking more playing time and a place in the playing XI that he is likely to get at the Old Trafford.

Barcelona head coach Luis Enriuq had said earlier: "He is a key player for us and he was there whenever we needed him. It is a pleasure having him at the club." But these words do not sync well with the last season's statistics as Pedro got only 15 starts for Barcelona in the 2014-2015 season.
