Just a day ahead of their inaugural game in the Premier League 2015-16 season against Tottenham, Manchester United have secured the future of English winger Ashley Young at Old Trafford for at least three more seasons.

The former Aston Villa man, who has had a resurgence of sorts under Louis van Gaal at United last season, is now tied with the Old Trafford outfit at least until June 2018, with the option of extending the contract for another year.

The 30-year-old player, who joined United in 2011, made 26 appearances in the Premier League last season for the Red Devils, and has also scored on two occasions. He also picked up five assists.

"I am delighted to have signed a new contract. The spirit and motivation amongst this team is very high and we are all determined to make this a season to remember," Young said.

"All I have ever wanted to do is play football and to be able to continue to do that at the biggest club in the world means everything to me and my family."

The 30-year-old showed his versatility last season as Van Gaal deployed him as a fullback in a number of occasions, and Young passed with flying colours in the defensive role. This is something that has pleased the Dutch manager.

"We are delighted that Ashley has signed a new contract. Ashley is a very multi-functional player. He took to the wing-back position with great confidence and flourished on the wing throughout last season. Ashley is always very professional and has a great presence in the dressing room," the Dutchman said.

Young has made a total of 115 appearances for the red Devils over the years, and has 13 goals and 28 assists to his name.

Meanwhile, the United fans are also happy that the hard work of the England international last season has finally paid off.
