State-wide Bandh on 29 August

YSR Congress Party has accused TDP of cheating people on the accordance of special category status to the State and called for a Statewide bandh on Saturday.

"The bandh call given by the YSRCP on August 29 is not for me but for the benefit of the future of the State and its people... The TDP cheated the people of AP by making a false promise on granting special status to the State at the time of the last Lok Sabha elections," PTI quoted YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy as saying on Wednesday.

"The TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu should be punished for making false statements on the special status issue and not fulfilling the promises made to people," Reddy added.

The special category status enables Andhra Pradesh to seek more percentage of Central funds in the form of grants and exemption for many taxes and duties, Reddy had said earlier. He had said that this will attract investments, which in turn, speed up the process of development.

The Congress and other opposition parties in Andhra have been demanding the Centre to grant special status to the State.
