Megastar Mammootty's family comedy entertainer Thoppil Joppan was released all over India on October 7 and is pitted against the over hyped Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan.
The Johny Antony directorial, in which Mammootty plays the role of an Achayan (name used to call Christian men in Kerala) has been making headlines ever since the movie started rolling. The actor has made a mark in similar roles many times before in movies like Kottayam Kunjachan, Johny Walker, Oru Maravathoor Kanavu and Nasrani among others.

The movie, which stars Mamta Mohandas and Andrea Jeremiah in female lead roles, has an ensemble cast including Kaviyoor Ponnamma, Salim Kumar, Mohan Jose, Saju Navodaya, Harisree Ashokan, Renji Panicker, Sreejith Ravi, Sohan Seenulal, Jude Anthany Joseph, Alencier Lay and Suresh Krishna.
Pulimurugan, Thoppil Joppan first day collection at Kochi multiplexes
Thoppil Joppan is the production venture of Grand Film Corporation and is expected to make a tremendous opening day business owing to the fabulous fan following Mammootty enjoys throughout the country. Trade analysts expect it to break the opening day collection of the megastar's action thriller Kasaba, which had earned a gross amount of Rs 2.43 crore on the first day from Kerala.

First of all. I didn't expect this movie to have a crowd and I was pretty much surprised by the response. The teaser's being the main reason. No more did i expect from the movie too.
It lives up to its tag line. 50% alcohol and the rest is love.
Now the movie.
The script is straight and simple and this is cakewalk for any director. The movie pampers the ego of all our dear brothers . The jokes of the movie strikes at a very good success ratio but some of the jokes might keep you wondering on the 113rs you paid at the counter. Mammootty is great, not that this role requires anything at all, but he could bring a smile to that little girl next to me.
So the movie is for the families and the nothing more.
The verdict is poised between watchable and disappointment and because I have seen the directors previous movies I would tilt towards the former.

Its an average movie with lots of fun, comedy, family entertainer..keeps us engaged thruout the movie..lot of old actors come into play giving out a feel of 90s malayalam movie. Its entirely different from the kottayam kunjachan movie but well pulled off by mamookka..
A superb, fantastic family entertainer... filled with everything such as comedy, mass, fights, etc... Mammootty acts very well on this fantastic script by Nishad Koya. Special congratulations to tha Director, Johny Antony and all other actors in this movie... Its cent percent clean family entertainer. I hope everybody can enjoy this

Thoppil Joppan is a full time laughing movie after him movie Mayavi. Good return by Salim Kumar. A good combination of love, action,comedy and bereavement along with alcohol. The main highlight of this movie is the never expecting climax. "Thoppil Joppan" will become the super hit family movie of the year 2016.
