Malayalam actor Paravoor Bharathan, who is known for his comedic roles, passed away on Wednesday morning. He had been undergoing treatment for a long time and was last seen on-screen in "Changathikoottam" in 2009.

Bharathan, 86, began his career as a theatre artist in the 1940s and made his acting debut in the Malayalam film industry in the early 1950s with "Rakthabandham", where he appeared in a negative role. He has acted in more than 1,000 films.

Some of his notable films are "In Harihara Nagar", "Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava", "Mazhavilkavadi", "Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal", "Mrigaya", "Aniyathipraavu", "Gajakesariyogam" and "Meleparambil Aanveedu".

He was also honoured with the Bahadoor Award in 2004.

The actor, who hails from North Paravoor, is survived by his wife Thankamani, who has been part of the theatre and film industry, three sons (Pradeep, Madhu, Ajayan) and daughter (Bindu).
