A major fire broke out at Majorkhul in Manipur capital city Imphal on Tuesday morning, injuring a child and gutting down at least 12 houses, including the state's old assembly guest house.

The fire broke out at around 11:46 am at Majorkhul, a crowded locality near Manipur Press Club. The cause of fire is not known till the time of filing this story.

The child injured in the fire is said to be out of danger but sources said that the number of casualty could increase, as the incident took place in a crowded residential area.

Around 16 LPG cylinders exploded, fueling rapid spread of fire in the area. At least 12 residential houses, godowns and shops were damaged in the fire.

Sources said that fire tenders and public took more than two hours to control the fire.
