Mahindra & Mahindra released images of the completely reworked Qaunto SUV with the new brand name NuvoSport last week. The specifications of the vehicle were reserved to be unveiled on the launch scheduled on April 4. Ahead of the launch, the engine details have been now leaked online.

The leaked information of TeamBHP indicates the vehicle will continue with the same Quanto engine. The 1.5-litre engine will develops 100bhp and 240Nm of torque. The NuvoSport will also feature power and economy modes. In the economy mode, the power figure drops to 71bhp and 180Nm of torque in order to achieve higher fuel efficiency. The engine will be mated to five speed manual transmission. There is no information regarding the petrol model or AMT version now. The report also says NuvoSport will be sold in four variants -- N4, N4+, N6 and N8.

The NuvoSport has been designed and developed in-house by the Mahindra design team, while the research and development of the vehicle has been carried out at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) in Chennai. The SUV is based on the same new-generation platform as that of the Scorpio. In the transition from the Qaunto to the NuvoSport, the SUV adopted a smaller grille and a pair of large headlamps in a different design. The eyebrow-styled daytime running lamps, the hood scoop and a larger air dam add sportiness to the overall design.

The NuvoSport is expected to be positioned between the KUV100 and the TUV300 and will be priced around Rs 6.5 lakh. It will take on the likes of Ford EcoSport and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in the market.
