Malayalam film "Loham", starring Mohanlal and Andrea Jermiah in the lead, has set a new collection record at the Kerala box office.

The Ranjith directorial, which was released in 141 theatres, amassed Rs 2.14 crore on the first day of release. This is the highest first day collection for a Malayalam release till now and the first time in the history of Kerala box office.

The film is set to make humongous collection as there isn't any major release until next Thursday, 27 August, when Kamal's Mammootty starrer "Utopiayile Rajavu" will be released.

Prithviraj-Indrajith starrer "Double Barrel", Kunchacko Boban's "Jamna Pyari" and Vineeth Sreenivasan's "Kunjiramayanam" will also join the Onam tug-of-war at the Kerala box office.

"Loham", a film moulded in Mohanlal-Ranjith camaraderie, had opened to mixed reviews after its release on 20 August.

"Loham", with the catchy tag line "The Yellow Metal", revolves around taxi driver, Raju, (Mohanlal) and Jayanti (Andrea Jeremiah), who hires his taxi. The incidents that follow form the crux of the story.

The cast also includes Ajmal Ameer, Siddhique, Renji Panicker, Harish Peradi, Mythili, VK Prakash and others.

The action-thriller is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas.
