Liverpool are reportedly looking to compete with their rivals Manchester United for the signature of PSV Eindhoven star Memphis Depay in the summer transfer window.

The 21-year-old forward has been in excellent form this season, scoring 20 goals to help PSV lift their first Eredivisie title since the 2007/08 season.

Depay's excellent form this season has caught the attention of many top sides and PSV manager Phillip Cocu expects the forward to leave this summer.

Manchester United are believed to be leading the race to secure the signing of the £25m-rated Netherlands international this summer, with PSV technical director Marcel Brands recently revealing that United have made an enquiry over the forward's availability.

But, according to the Daily Express, Liverpool have also reportedly joined the race to land the 21-year-old Dutchman.

Liverpool are desperate to sign new attackers following their disappointing goalscoring form this season, after former talisman Luis Suarez left for Barcelona last summer.

Mario Balotelli and Rickie Lambert, who have been poor this season, are expected to leave Anfield this summer, and manager Brendan Rodgers is looking to get better players to replace them.

It is understood that Liverpool and Manchester United are already competing for the signature of Burnley's Danny Ings, whose contract at the Turf Moor will expire at the end of the season.

And now the Merseyside club are also reportedly looking to rival the Red Devils for Depay's signature.

However, Depay will probably move to Old Trafford as United will be able to give him Champions League football next season, and he is reportedly keen to be reunited with manager Louis van Gaal, who has already worked with the youngster when he was the head coach of the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Rodgers' job seems to be in danger following reports of Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp being interested in managing Liverpool.

Klopp, who recently announced that he will be leaving the Westfalenstadion after the end of this season, is being heavily linked with a move to the English Premier League next season.

It is thought that Manchester City and Arsenal are keen to secure his services, but according to the Sun, Klopp is only interested in managing Manchester United and Liverpool in England.

As it is unlikely that van Gaal will be fired after the end of this season, it is highly possible that Liverpool could bring in the German at the expense of Rodgers, who has not managed to win a single trophy since taking over the reins at Anfield in 2012.
