Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of completing a £20 million deal for Benfica's Lazar Markovic, who is now set for a medical at Anfield.

According to ESPN, the 20-year-old will be unveiled in a couple of days as Liverpool continue to strength their squad this summer.

Markovic, who moved to Benfica from Partizan Belgrade in 2013 despite reported interests from Chelsea and Inter Milan, has been dubbed a potential star in the making, with former Blues manger Avram Grant stating: "I can say that apart from Ronaldo and Messi, Markovic is one of the best talents I've ever seen at 19 years of age."

And his debut season at Benfica proved that Markovic has a good chance of living up to the expectations.

Despite facing some stiff competition initially for a place in the starting line-up in Jorge Jesus' side, the young Serbian soon established himself as a regular, scoring seven goals from 49 appearances.

Now, with him poised to make a move to the physical and demanding Premier League, Markovic's international and former Benfica teammate Nemanja Matic is confident he will do well in England.

"What can I say about our Markovic? It was excellent playing with this fantastic kid for six months. He has such massive potential that if he changed his attitude in training he could be one of Europe's best players in his position. But he's young, he'll mature, and then nobody will be able to stop him!"

Meanwhile, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who has already completed the signing of Southampton duo Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana along with Bayer Leverkusen youngster Emre Can, is reportedly looking to further reinforce with squad as he prepares to launch a fresh attack in the Premier League and other competitions next season.

The Reds are still reportedly pursuing Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno, though rivals Chelsea are rumoured to be close to getting his signature.

Southampton defender Dejan Lovren is another target for Liverpool but the Saints are reportedly only willing to listen to offers above £25 million, according to the Mirror.
