Former Liverpool stars such as Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler, Ian Rush, Jamie Carragher and more are set to entertain football fans as they face Australia legends at the ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Thursday. Liverpool Legends will be managed by Gerard Houllier.

On paper, the Liverpool legends, with an array of stars, resemble a solid team, and are expected to beat the Australia legends, but the latter will be buoyed by home support, which makes matters interesting. With Australia also holding a strong support base for Liverpool, those odds might just be evened, making the Premier League side's legends team the favourites.

Mark Bosnich is one of the biggest stars in the Australia legends team. Robbie Slater, who won the EPL title with Blackburn, will lead the Australia legends. Other players in the team include Ante Milicic, Steve Corica, while the side will be managed by Graham Arnold.

Though the match might simply be an exhibition game, the players are going to go all out for a win and with players such as Gerrard and Carragher, who wear the Liverpool shirt with pride, expect the duo to treat this game as another competitive encounter.

"There has always been pressure and all eyes on me when I have put a Liverpool shirt on, I know that's not going to change. But I'm here to enjoy it," Liverpool official website quoted Gerrard as saying.

"I want to play well and I want to win the game but I also want to do that with a smile on my face, because it is different being outside the pressure of being in the proper first team. It's all about enjoyment now.

"But they know when the whistle starts, we're going to be competing and want to beat them. And I'm sure it's the same for them; every team that plays against Liverpool, whether it's a friendly, exhibition match or a serious game, wants to beat them.

"We're ready for that and we're over here to win the game."

This match against the Australia legends also happens to be Gerrard's first game as captain in Liverpool colours after leaving the Reds last season.

Irrespective of how the match pans out in Sydney, the fans, who are expected to come out in huge numbers, are going to be a treated to a major spectacle, as it is a rare occasion when players such as Gerrard, Rush, John Aldridge and Luis Garcia play under the same roof.
