South Korean electronic major LG has introduced Optimus L9 in India. The newly-launched deviec is the latest in the L series line of smartphones.

The Optimus L9 is priced at ₹23, 000 in the LG India website. However, Indian online retailer Flipkart is selling the same model for ₹18, 490. The date of shipment has not been updated.

The electronic company globally unveiled the Optimus L9 in August this year. LG missed cashing in on the festive Diwali season in India and now seems to be pinning its hope on the Christmas season.

"The Optimus L9 is a great smartphone that appeals to every consumer," said Dr. Jongseok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company.

He further said that "LG will continue to offer differentiated value through the Optimus L9 and strengthen our position in the smartphone market."

The Optimus L9 has a 9.1mm thin body with a slimming metallic streak.

The Optimus L9 smartphone has an interesting feature called 'QTranslator'. This function translates words as well whole sentences and phrases using Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology.

The technology recognizes letters upon scanning with the camera and utilizes an electronic dictionary or online translation engine to translate words, sentences or phrases.

LG also claims that QTranslator can identify nearly 44 foreign languages.
