Investigations have revealed that terror outfits Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizbul Mujahideen were involved in the recent bank robberies that took place in several districts of Jammu and Kashmir, Inspector General of Police SJM Gillani said on Monday.

Gillani said there are around 200 terrorists hiding in the Kashmir Valley at present and 110 of them are local terrorists. He added that 95 of them "joined militant ranks last year."

Responding to questions about students pelting stones at the security forces, Gillani said: "Some students were instigated by outside elements to pelt stones by giving them money. I appeal to the parents of students to counsel them."

When asked about social media sites being blocked in the state, the IGP said: "We will assess the effects of blocking social media sites and then take a decision on whether we need to resume them or not."

Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti had defended the youth in her state saying not all youngsters were stone pelters. A minority of the students pelted stones at security forces.

Mufti told ANI: "Few people pelt stones, all the youths of Jammu-Kashmir don't do that."

She also requested the national media to put an end to spreading hatred against the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "I request national media to not show discussions on TV that spread hatred against people of J&K in the country," the CM said.
