Lana Parrilla, the actress who became a fan favourite through the portrayal of Regina Mills aka The Evil Queen in popular ABC series "Once Upon a Time", celebrates her 38th birthday on Wednesday, 15 July.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, as the second child to professional baseball player Sam Parrilla, Lana had to go through several hardships in life before gaining fame.

Since her parents legally ended their marriage four years after her birth, the "Spin City" actress spent early years of her life with her mother, who is a talented painter of Sicilian descent.

During her teenage days, she was with her father and he was not very keen about her acting career. He was killed by a 15-year-old boy when Lana was 16.

The actress became a part of the TV world in 1999 through American sitcom "Grown Ups". Some of her small screen projects are "Spin City", "Boomtown", The Shield", "Windfall", "Swingtown" and "Miami Medical".

Lana was also part of several movies and short films, including "Very Mean Men", "Spiders", "Replicant", "Frozen Stars", "One Last Ride" and "The Double Life of Eleanor Kendall".

She got engaged to her boyfriend Fred Di Blasio in April 2013 and tied the knot in 2014. She is the stepmother of Blasio's three children -- Jack, Patrick and Matthew.
