Lady Gaga paid an emotional tribute to the 49 victims killed in the Orlando shooting. The heartbroken pop star made an unexpected appearance at a vigil held in Los Angeles, where she told those affected that they are not alone.

Speaking at the event attended by thousands, she said: Tonight, I gather humbly with you, as a human being, in peace, in sincerity, in commitment, in solidarity, to take a real moment and mourn the tragic loss of these innocent, beautiful people.

Tonight I will not allow my anger and outrage over this attack to overshadow our need to honour those who are grieving truly for their lost ones, lost members of the LGBT community, she told a crowd gathered outside LA City Hall, before reading the names and ages of each of the 49 victims.

I hope you know that myself and so many are your allies.

Gaga was joined by the Gay Mens Chorus LA, who performed a version of True Colours and told the LGBT community that they have allies in this difficult time.

After Mondays (13 June) vigil, the 30-year-old singer posted on Twitter: Ignore voices that aim to divide us, this only leads to more violence between people.

We must united as humans, where we are all the same.

The gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen who killed as many as 30 people inside the clubs bathroom. Thousands gathered in Orlando on Monday night to mourn, remember and pay respect to the 49 people killed in the attack at the nightclub on Sunday morning – each victim symbolised by a bell toll at the end of the event.
