India discard Gautam Gambhir has hit out at politicians, who had targeted newlyweds Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma for marrying abroad.

The Delhi captain said nobody, let alone politicians have the right to comment on anyone else's personal matters.

"It is completely their personal matter and choice and nobody should comment on this. Politicians should be more careful while making such comments," Gambhir told Times Now.

BJP MLA calls Kohli 'unpatriotic'

Gambhir's comment comes a day after BJP MLA Pannalal Sakya slammed Kohli and Anushka for not getting married in India. The Pune leader even called the Indian cricket team captain "unpatriotic", saying the celebrity couple had spent all their money in other country and not in India.

"In this country, Ram, Krishna, Vikramaditya, and Yudhisthira got married. And you people might have also married in this country or would get married. But no one among us goes abroad like he has gone. He earned his money and fame in India and took all of it abroad."

Another BJP leader suggest honeymoon destination

Another BJP leader, this time from Anantnag -- Rafiq Wani -- also slammed the celebrity couple, saying they could have at least had their honeymoon in the country.

"We have such a huge country of 125 crores citizen, if he wanted to get married he could have got married here," Rafiq said, as quoted by the Press Trust of India.

He added: "There is no issue that he has got married abroad, it is his choice but for a honeymoon the most beautiful place which is called 'Heaven on Earth' is Kashmir. So they should have had their honeymoon here. Then our tourism would have gotten a boost also."

Kohli, Anushka invite PM Modi for Delhi reception party

Notably, Kohli and Anushka have been grabbing headlines ever since the duo left the country earlier this month amid speculations of their marriage. However, the two took to Twitter to confirm the news on December 11.

The superstar cricket and the Bollywood actor tied the knot at a luxury heritage resort in Tuscany, Italy. Only close friends and relatives were invited the week-long celebrations.

However, Kohli and Anushka will be hosting a couple of reception parties - first in Delhi on December 21 and the next one in Mumbai on December 26. The newlyweds will celebrate New Year in South Africa where the skipper will lead Team India in a three-Test series, starting January 5.

The newlyweds even met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, December 20 to their Delhi wedding reception.
