A 20-year-old engineering student was killed after she was mowed down by an open jeep inside the campus of College of Engineering (CET) in Thiruvananthapuram on 19 August, during the college's Onam celebrations.

Days after the gruesome death of Thanzi Basheer, a video, purportedly showing the killer vehicle veering off the path and hitting someone, has gone viral on social media and Whatsapp.

The video, said to have been taken during the Onam celebrations in CET, shows an open jeep that looks similar to the one (KBF 7268) that caused the accident on the college campus.

The video shows the jeep ploughing through the crowds before losing control and hitting an object before crashing into the wall.

However, the footage claiming to be that of CET accident is not true as the video was recorded at Kottayam Institute of Technology and Science (KITS). It is clear from the college building seen in the video.

Thanzi, the sixth semester civil engineering student from Nilambur in Malappuram, Kerala, passed away on Thursday after suffering serious head injuries.

Meanwhile, Baiju, who drove the vehicle that killed Thanzi, surrendered at the medical college police station on Sunday. Baiju, who hails from Kannur, is a final-year mechanical engineering student in the college. Several reports said that the student behind the wheel was driving under the influence of alcohol.
