After Jagathy Sreekumar's death hoax went viral on social media on Friday, 27 November, the actor's family decided to take legal action against the unknown miscreants who spread the rumour.
The fake news was created by someone using Manorama news channel's logo and watermarks.
The cyber police have registered a case in connection with it on Saturday following complaints from Jagathy's family and Manorama channel.
The photoshopped image, which was widely shared on messaging app Whatsapp on Friday evening, claimed Jagathy died after a heart attack at his wife's brother's house. It also said that the actor's last rites will be held on Saturday.
After the news went viral, Jagathy's lovechild Sreelakshmi Sreekumar clarified that it was a fake news. She also requested people to stop spreading false news, instead pray for him.
"F***** those A***** my family is still in shock after seeing this post that has been circulating in social medias and through whatsapp .. plz people mind your own business ...
