A mouthwatering encounter in the ISL 2016 awaits on Friday when Kerala Blasters and Mumbai City FC go head-to-head for the first time this season. Both teams have two different tales so far -- While Sachin Tendulkar's Kerala are yet to record a win this season, Ranbir Kapoor's Mumbai are yet to taste a defeat.
Win or lose, any match at the JLN Stadium in Kochi is a momentous occasion. Around 55,000 spectators were present in the previous two home games for Kerala Blasters this season and Mumbai City too will remain a witness to this on Friday. TEAM NEWS HERE | MATCH HIGHLIGHTS HERE.
"It's definitely something I would like to see. It's the first time we'll be playing in this kind of atmosphere," said Mumbai City coach Alexandre Guimaraes. "But my players have shown confidence and I am hoping we put up an equally good performance, if not better, against KBFC," the Costa Rican added.
Mumbai recorded back to back wins against Pune City and NorthEast United but were held by Atletico de Kolkata in their previous matches. "I would have liked to have nine points out of nine and I think we played with the intention of getting maximum points. But that's how the game is. More than the points, what needs to be focused on is the performance," Guimaraes added.
Kerala Blasters, meanwhile, need all the luck and that magical performance to record a favourable result in their home turf. Steve Coppell's side lost against NorthEast United and Atletico de Kolkata, before recording a goalless draw against Delhi Dynamos. Attacking has been a major headache for a team as they are yet to score a goal this season.
In the head 2 head record, Mumbai have a 1-0 lead over Kerala over four matches. The other three matches have ended in a draw.
Kerala Blasters vs Mumbai City FC is scheduled to kick off at 7 pm IST (2.30 pm BST) on October 14.
