Karva Chauth, which is being celebrated on Saturday, 11 October, is an auspicious festival celebrated by married Indian women, especially in the northern and western states of the country. They fast for the whole day for the well-being of their husbands and their long life.

Several movies in Bollywood such as "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" and "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham" have depicted the tradition with memorable moments.

In real life Bollywood actresses celebrate Karva Chauth every year with their family and friends. The divas look glamorous in traditional attire and fast for their husband with much fanfare.

The Times of India spoke to a few actresses, who celebrate Karva Chauth.

South Indian beauty Shilpa Shetty Kundra said that since she is married to a Punjabi, she follows the tradition. The actress told TOI that she enjoys the festival, but she does not like to fast.

According to Sonali Bendre, Karva Chauth is a day to show her gratitude towards her family. The actress who is used to eating small meals every two hours finds it difficult to starve. But being the perfect bahu, she follows the tradition as her mother-in-law deeply believes in it.

Evergreen heroine, Hema Malini, has also been celebrating Karva Chauth for many years and she fasts for her husband, Dharmendra.

Her daughter, Esha, has been observing fast on Karva Chauth for four years and this time she says they will have double celebration. On the day of the festival, it is her husband's birthday as well. She further says that this year is the first Karva Chauth for her sister Ahana. According to her, Ahana is pretty excited and despite being a tomboy she has decided to wear the traditional attire.
