"Yeh Hai Mohabbatein" actor Karan Patel got engaged to television actress Ankita Bhargava in Mumbai on Saturday, 14 March.

The engagement was a private ceremony with only family and close friends of Karan and Ankita from television industry attending it.

Television actor Hiten Tejwani and his wife Gauri Pradhan and cast of "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein", including Aly Goni, Sangram Singh and others attended the engagement ceremony.

Karan, who is popular for his role Raman Bhalla in "Yeh Hai Mohabbatein", last week revealed that he is getting married to actress Ankita. Interestingly, Ankita is the daughter of Abhay Bhargava, who plays the role of Karan's father-in-law in the show.

Karan announced that a roka ceremony (engagement) would be held in March, and the wedding will take place in May.

Before getting engaged to Ankita, Karan was reportedly in a relationship with "Bigg Boss 7" contestant Kamya Punjabi. The reason behind the breakup is not revealed, but Ankita cleared the air that Karan didn't end his relationship with Kamya because of her.

Meanwhile, Karan's on-screen and real-life father-in-law said that the two met at a party.

"My daughter Ankita has never visited our set. I had thrown a party for the Ye Hai Mohabbatein cast at home recently, that was when Karan and she met," he said in a statement.

Aly Goni, who plays the role of Karan's younger brother in the show, said that he introduced Karan and Ankita at a party. According to Abhay, it was Aly who said that Karan and Ankita are made for each other.

"Aly spoke to Karan's parents, who saw Ankita's picture and within an hour they got back to us saying they wanted her to be their daughter-in-law. I am aware of Karan's past but I know that his good qualities outdo the bad ones, so I'm happy," Abhay said.
