This October is going to be a crucial month for the Malayalam entertainment industry, with some of the highly-anticipated films set to hit the screens.

Mammootty's "Pathemari", Mohanlal's "Kanal", Prithviraj-Indrajith Sukumaran-Jayasurya starrer "Amar Akbar Anthony", Manju Warrier-Rima Kallingal's "Rani Padmini", Kunchacko Boban's "Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi" and Asif's "Driver on Duty" are expected to be released in October.

Interestingly, none of them fall under the same genre, thus making them must-watch movies.

"Pathemari"

The Mammootty starrer is a family drama that tells the story of Keralite immigrants in the Gulf countries. The film, directed by Salim Ahamed, deals with the hurdles Keralites face in order to support their families back home. The film also has Jewel Mary and Sreenivasan, Salim Kumar, Balachandra Menon, Joy Mathew, Yavanika Gopalakrishnan and Shaheen Siddique in main roles. It has to be noted that "Pathemari" missed the Oscar nomination by a whisker to Marathi film "Court" during the last round of the nomination race.

"Kanal"

The Mohanlal starrer is a thriller road movie, which tells the story of two Keralite families who have spent their lives in the Middle East. Directed by M Padmakumar it also has Anoop Menon, Atul Kulkarni, Pratap Pothan, Honey Rose, Nikita Thukral and Sheelu Abraham in pivotal roles.

"Amar Akbar Anthony"

We have seen brothers Indrajith Sukumaran and Prithviraj Sukumaran sharing the screen space many times. We have also seen Prithviraj and Jayasurya together in many hit films. The trio amazed moviegoers with their on-screen chemistry in the blockbuster film "Classmates" in 2006. Now, they will be seen together in Nadirshah's upcoming comedy thriller "Amar Akbar Anthony". Compared to the other October releases , the comedy element of the film makes it a must-watch.

"Rani Padmini"

Compared to the old days of the entertainment industry, woman-centric films have been gaining popularity in the recent days. Films like "Nee-Na", "How Old Are You", "Om Shanti Oshana", among others, were focused on eve-power. Now, after the hit film "22 Female Kottayam", Aashiq Abu is coming with an adventure drama, which tells the story of two women who are on a trip to Himachal Pradesh. Manju Warrier and Rima Kallingal play the lead roles in the film.
