Vidya Balan's Kahaani 2 (Kahani 2) has made a decent collection at the Indian box office in its first three days and shattered the first weekend business record of the first instalment in the Kahaani series.
The huge success of the first instalment in the Kahaani film series had generated a lot of expectations about Kahaani 2. Its promos had garnered a lot of attention for the movie. In addition, the makers had a good amount of publicity for the film. The movie was expected to debut with good response.
The Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal starrer witnessed poor advance booking and opened to average response with its occupancy ranging between 25 to 35 percent in the morning and afternoon shows on Friday. But Kahaani 2 showed decent growth in the evening shows and collected Rs 4.25 crore at the Indian box office on the first day. The film broke the opening day record of Kahaani, which had raked in Rs 2.51 crore.
The Sujoy Ghosh directed movie bagged mixed response from audience and critics and the word of mouth boosted its collection on Saturday. When compared to its opening day collection, Kahaani 2 witnessed 36.24 percent growth on the second day and collected Rs 5.79 crore at the Indian box office. The film showed further improvement with its collection reaching Rs 6.93 crore on the third day.
Kahaani 2 has collected Rs 16.97 crore nett from 1,235 screens at the Indian box office in the first weekend and its three-day domestic gross total has reached Rs 23.50 crore. The movie has smashed the opening weekend record of Kahaani, which collected Rs 13.83 crore nett in the domestic market.
Taran Adarsh tweeted: "#Kahaani2 had further 19.69% growth on Sun... Fri 4.25 cr, Sat 5.79 cr, Sun 6.93 cr. Total: ₹ 16.97 cr [1235 screens]. India biz."
Written by Sujoy Ghosh, Kahaani 2 is a suspense thriller about a mysterious woman, who is charged with kidnapping and murder. The audience and critics say that the film boasts of a thrilling and intriguing script, brilliant performances by Vidya Balan and Arjun Rampal and has good production values.
