Rajinikanth-starrer "Kabali" has been declared a 'blockbuster' at the Chennai box office. The movie, released on July 22, has made a record-breaking collection in the capital city of Tamil Nadu.

"Kabali" collected Rs. 11.32 crore in Chennai by the end of its sixth weekend. It is the highest-ever business made by any film in the capital city of Tamil Nadu. The Rajinikanth-starrer has now broken the records of Vijay's "Theri," which collected over Rs. 10 crore, Vikram's "I," which raked in Rs. 9.70 crore, and " Baahubali: The Beginning," which earned about Rs. 9 crore in the city.

In its sixth weekend, "Kabali" had 42 shows in Chennai from which it earned Rs. 4.92 lakh. Despite facing competition from a few movies, the Rajinikanth-starrer managed to pull good number of audience to theatres last weekend.

In the first weekend, "Kabali" had minted Rs. 3.49 crore from 942 shows. The pre-release buzz had ensured an earth-shattering opening for the Tamil movie.

Meanwhile, the business of "Kabali" has slowed down outside Chennai. The movie was released in over 550 screens in Tamil Nadu and presently in countable screens. The flick has grossed over Rs. 80 crore in Tamil Nadu and has provided profit to most of the distributors and exhibitors say trade reports.

"Kabali," which was simultaneously released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi, is produced by Kalaippuli S Thanu and directed by Pa Ranjith. Made with the budget of Rs. 100 crore, it has grossed over Rs. 350 crore worldwide.

The movie has Radhika Apte in the female lead and Kishore, Kalaiyarasan and others in supporting roles.
