Rajinikanth's "Kabali" has made a fantastic collection at the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (AP/T) box office in the first weekend and shattered the thee-day business record of his last film, "Lingaa."

"Kabali" had superb pre-release hype and promotions in the Telugu-speaking states, where the film was released in over 550 screens, and it had good advance booking for its first weekend. The movie opened to an overwhelming response and collected approximately Rs 12.40 crore at the AP/T box office on the first day. The film became the biggest opener for Rajini, beating the record of "Lingaa."

The Pa. Ranjith-directed gangster drama film received mixed reviews from the critics and audience and trade experts predicted that the word of mouth would take a toll on its collection on the following days. The movie showed a dip in its business on Saturday, but the drop was not as low as predicted.

The Kalaipuli S Thanu-produced movie showed around 40-percent drop in its collection on Saturday, while it was rock-steady on Sunday. "Kabali" collected approximately Rs. 7.10 crore gross on its second day and Rs. 7.50 crore on its third day in the both the Telugu speaking states.

"Kabali" has collected approximately Rs. 27 crore at the AP/T box office in the first weekend and its distributors share stands at Rs. 18.04 crore. The movie has reportedly earned Rs 32 crore from the sale of its distribution rights for the Telugu speaking states. The film has recovered over 55-percent of the investments of the distributors and it is expected recover another 25 percent on the weekdays.

Rajinikanth's last outing "Lingaa" has collected Rs. 15.30 crore gross at the AP/T box office in its opening weekend and earned Rs. 12.75 crore for its distributors. It was highest first weekend collection for a film starring Rajini. Now, his latest outing "Kabali" has broken that record.
