The Ernakulam Principal Sessions court in Ernakulam, Kerala, on Tuesday, December 12, declared that the only accused Ameer ul-Islam (Amir ul-Islam), a migrant worker from Assam, is guilty in the infamous Jisha rape and murder case. The accused was brought to the court at around 10 am.

The court found Ameer guilty of all charges except for destroying evidence and violations under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. The quantum of punishment is expected to be pronouced by the court on Wednesday.

The sessions court had completed the hearing in the sensational case on December 6. The prosecution had described it as the rarest of rare case and the police team had questioned more than 2,000 people.

A blood-stained footwear was found in a canal near Jisha's residence which helped the investigation team to identify the culprit.

Meanwhile, Jisha's mother KK Rajeswari has demanded death penalty for the accused and expressed hope that her daughter will finally get justice.

The law student, who hails from Perumbavoor, was found dead in her house after being brutally raped on April 28, 2016. The shocking incident was then found similar to the infamous 2012 Delhi gang-rape as more than 30 injuries were found on the body of the victim.

According to the post-mortem report, the 29-year-old was beaten savagely with a sharp weapon that pulled out her intestines. Two sides of her chest were also found pierced using a sharp knife and the killer had also thrust an iron rod in her genitals.
