American vehicle manufacturer Jeep, under the umbrella of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, is all set to enter the Indian market in 2016. The company will be launching Jeep Grand Cherokee and Jeep Wrangler range next year and the unveiling is expected at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Interestingly, another Jeep model, the Renegade, has been imported to India for research and analysis purpose. Four units of the Renegade SUV have been imported from USA, in which two units are 4x4 variant, while the other two is 4x2 versions. The import details from Zauba estimates Rs 17.50 lakh for each unit.

There is no Information on the possible India launch at present. However, growing trends for SUVs in India might prompt the company to launch the Renegade in the country. If the company goes for it, a CKD line would be opted that will make the retail price under Rs 15 lakh. At this price point, the Renegade will go up against the likes of Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. In another possibility, the import will be for the benchmarking of the widely rumored sub-Renegade SUV.

The import data also indicates that the Renegade is fitted with 2000cc engine, which the company sells in Europe and Latin America. The in-line four-cylinder 2.0-litre Multijet2 engine develops 138bhp mated to six-speed manual transmission. The engine also comes with higher tune of 168bhp while mated to nine-speed automatic.
