Junior NTR and Koratala Siva's "Janatha Garage" has made an earth-shattering collection at the United States box office in the premiere shows. The film broke the business records of "Nannaku Prematho" and "Brahmotsavam."
Pre-release hype and promotion of the film helped "Janatha Garage" fetch a record price for its overseas theatrical rights. FICUS Entertainment acquired the international theatrical rights of the film for a whopping amount of Rs. 7.25 crore, a record price for a movie starring Junior NTR and Mohanal.
The makers delivered the prints of "Janatha Garage" to various foreign locations well in advance. FICUS Entertainment made grand arrangements for its massive release and booked 200 screens in the U.S. and 200 screens in other countries. It also made impressive arrangements for its premiere shows in over 150 screens across North America. The film registered good advance ticket booking.
The Junior NTR and Mohanlal-starrer opened to a superb response in cinema halls across North America in the premiere shows on Wednesday night. It ran to packed houses in some centres across the country.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Going through @Rentrak... Telugu film #JanathaGarage takes a SENSATIONAL start in USA... Data still being compiled... Updates later! Despite midweek release [Wed], the start of Telugu film #JanathaGarage is much much more than the start of most Hindi biggies in USA. "
As per early estimates, "Janatha Garage" has collected approximately $479,000 from 140 centres at the U.S. box office in the premiere shows on Wednesday night. Taran Adarsh tweeted: "Telugu film #JanathaGarage is PHENOMENAL, despite midweek release in USA... Wed $ 560,509 [₹ 3.76 cr]. @Rentrak"
"Janatha Garage" has shattered the premiere shows' record of "Brahmotsavam" at the U.S. box office, but failed to beat "Sardaar Gabbar Singh."
