Junior NTR's "Janatha Garage" has beaten the lifetime collection record of Allu Arjun's "Sarrainodu" in two weeks. In just 15 days, it has become the highest earning Telugu movie of 2016.
"Janatha Garage" collected Rs. 102 crore gross at the worldwide box office in its opening week and earned Rs. 64.40 crore for its distributors in eight days. The movie was expected to continue the dream run in the second week and surpass the Rs. 150 crore mark globally.
But the movie's collections were affected by new releases "Jyo Achyutananda," "Inkokkadu," "Baar Baar Dekho" and "Freaky Ali". Besides losing some screens, "Janatha Garage" became the second choice due to new releases. When compared to its opening week, the movie witnessed around 90 percent drop in its collection globally in the second week.
"Janatha Garage" is estimated to have collected approximately over Rs. 18.7 crore crore gross at the worldwide box office in its second week, taking its 15-day worldwide total to Rs. 120.70 crore.The movie has become the second highest grossing Telugu film of 2016 after "Sarrainodu," which raked in Rs. 127 crore overall. The film is set to beat the latter's record in its third week.
The Junior NTR- and Mohanlal-starrer added Rs. 10.45 crore to the total earnings of its distributors (Rs. 74.62 crore). Its global theatrical rights were sold for Rs. 67 crore and besides recovering the investments, "Janatha Garage" earned a decent profit of Rs. 7.62 crore for its distributors in 15 days.
