Suspected terrorists dressed in army uniform snatched five service rifles from security guards posted at a TV tower in the Anantnag district of south Kashmir on Monday morning. The guards have been taken into custody.

The police said that the terrorists assaulted the guards at a Low Power Transmitter station of public service broadcaster Doordarshan in Dalvash village late Sunday night.

The armed militants stormed into the tower's guardroom, overpowered the guards and escaped after snatching the rifles. They took away one Insas and carbine rifle each, and three self-loading rifles.

Search operation has been launched to locate the militants as well as the weapons.

"Senior officers from police reached the spot to assess the situation... A hunt has been launched to nab the suspected rebels," sources told the Hindustan Times.

Sources added that an alert has been sounded in the area while all entry and exit points leading to Dooru village have been sealed.

Meanwhile, an army jawan was killed in a ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops on Sunday morning in the Naushera sector of Jammu and Kashmir. Unprovoked firing along four Indian posts were reported.
