Versatile Malayalam actor and comedian Jagathy Sreekumar, who turns 65 on Tuesday, 5 January, is one of the most loved celebrities in Kerala. After meeting with a major accident in Malappuram in 2012, he has stayed away from acting, and audience are eagerly waiting to see him back on the big screen.

Jagathy is extremely popular with moviegoers of all age groups and is the first name that comes to mind when asked about the best comedian in Malayalam films. He became a household name for portraying as many as 1,500 memorable comic and character roles in Mollywood.

After establishing himself as a theatre artiste, Jagathy began his career as a film actor with the movie "Chattambi Kalyani" in 1975. Before that, he had played a child artiste in the 1955 film "Acahanum Makanum". Later, he became a part of many hit films and is best known for his comedy roles with Mohanlal, Innocent, Kalpana, Jagadeesh, Jayaram, Sreenivasan, Mukesh, Mammukoya, among many others.

Jagathy, who is now recovering from the accident, recently made a public appearance and attended some programmes on TV channels. He was also felicitated during the recent Asianet Comedy awards, in which he was given the life time achievement award by Jagadeesh and Suraj Venjaramoodu.
