Football fans in Chennai have some worrying news coming to them on Tuesday. The home leg of the ISL semi final clash for Chennaiyin FC against Atletico de Kolkata has been relocated to Pune.
Incessant rain in Chennai and the worrying flood situation has forced the ISL organisers to make the emergency move of relocating the crucial game from the Marina Arena on 12 December. The Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Pune is the venue now.
"IMG-Reliance & Star India along with the Chennaiyin FC management conclude to the decision of moving the Club's home ground to Pune, after evaluating all possibilities for Chennai to host the semi-final match," a statement released in the ISL website, said.
"The decision was particularly difficult as Chennaiyin FC's fans have displayed immense passion and fortitude to support their Club through thick and thin this season. But it was one which had to be taken, keeping in mind the current situation in Chennai."
Incidentally, Marco Materazzi's side played their final game of the ISL 2015 regular league season in Pune as well, against FC Pune City. Jeje Lalpekhlua was the lone goalscorer, as the visitors earned a 1-0 win. They finished third in the table with 22 points from 14 games.
