An amatuer video has been published online that purports to show damaged buildings in the Isis-seized city of Palmyra by Syrian air strikes.

Days after Islamic State (Isis) fighters captured the ancient city, home to some of the worlds most extensive and best preserved Roman ruins, the Syrian air force has launched aerial strikes at buildings believed to have been captured by the jihadist group.

The amateur video shows damaged houses and streets littered with rubble, as well as showing the citys deserted military security branch and national hospital.

Since entering the ancient city, IS is believed to have executed hundreds of people including many children, Syrias state news agency said: The terrorists have killed more than 400 people including women and children… and mutilated their bodies, under the pretext that they cooperated with the government and did not follow orders.

There are now fears that more residents will be murdered and that the famed archeological ruins will also be destroyed.
