Indian Premier League (IPL) has got two new teams and they engaged in a draft that was exclusively made for them. Team Pune and Rajkot have already picked up five players each from the draft and now they will have to buy the remaining players in the auction that will take place on 6 February, 2016 in Bangalore.
Pune made some obvious choices in the form of MS Dhoni and Ravichandran Ashwin. They also added Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis and Ajinkya Rahane. Meanwhile, Rajkot added Suresh Raina, Ravindra Jadeja, James Faulkner, Dwayne Bravo and Brendon McCullum.
These two teams could only pick 10 players from a pool of 50 in the draft, which was held at the Club House of the Bandra Kurla Complex Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday. They actually missed out on some valuable foreign and Indian players as well.
A player of Shane Watson's class was not picked. Tim Southee, Dwayne Smith, Pravin Tambe, Irfan Pathan, Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, Kane Richardson, Chris Morris and more remained unpicked on Tuesday's draft. One cannot really blame the two new franchises as they could pick only five best players from the suspended teams Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR).
The players who remained unpicked in the draft on Tuesday will automatically be added to the auction list. Both Team Pune and Rajkot have spent more or less around Rs 39-40 crore on Tuesday and they will have a balance of Rs 27 crore to spend during the auction on 6 Februrary for IPL 2016.
