Indian cricket fans wait for one mega event every year when they either get glued to their TVs or come into the stadium in numbers to see their favourite cricketing stars play under several banners. Yes, we are talking about Indian Premier League (IPL), which has become the most popular T20 tournament in the world.
The ninth edition of IPL is set to start from 9 April after ICC World T20. The player auction for IPL 2016 will be held on 6 February, Saturday, in Bangalore. A total of 351 players — both national and international (capped and uncapped) — have been listed in the auction pool. The eight franchises can buy 116 players from among them.
Some players are set to earn a lot of money in this auction. Let us take a look at some of the Indian players who are set to be sold for big bucks on Saturday:
1. Yuvraj Singh: This had to be the first name on this list. Delhi Daredevils have yet again released most of their players, and the mighty Yuvraj Singh is among them. He recently marked his return into the India T20 squad in the Australia tour. He has also been picked for the Sri Lanka T20 series. Going by MS Dhoni's words, he is likely to be a member of the India T20 squad for Asia Cup T20 and ICC World T20 2016. The left-handed classy batsman has a base price of Rs 2 crore, and franchises are likely to engage in a heavy bidding war over the Punjab lad.
2. Irfan Pathan:
The left-arm all-rounder has been in stunning form in the domestic season. Be it Vijay Hazare Trophy or Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he has picked up wickets, he has been scoring runs with his bat in both 50-over and T20 formats. Pathan, unfortunately, did not get a single game during his stint with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), but this year he has surely caught the eyes of team managements. Pathan has a base price of Rs 1 crore.
3. Dinesh Karthik:
This Tamil-Nadu batsman can hit the ball well. He also serves a dual purpose in a team: He is equally good behind the stumps. Karthik did not have a happy IPL campaign with RCB in 2015, having scored only 141 runs in 16 matches. He will be primed to do better in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league. Karthik has a base price of Rs 2 crore.
4. Ashish Nehra:
Ashish Nehra has worked wonders for MS Dhoni while he played for Chennai Super Kings. He produced his best performance in IPL 2015 with 22 wickets in 16 matches. He recently made his way back into the Indian team as well during the T20 series against Australia. Dhoni has shown a lot of faith in this veteran. Nehra has a base price of Rs 2 crore.
5. Mohit Sharma:
He has played for only CSK since 2013. Dhoni used to ask him to bowl the death overs, and his back-of-the-hand slower deliveries have foxed the best batsmen in the world during the previous seasons of IPL. Mohit Sharma is a very handy bowler in T20 cricket, and franchises are likely to have added his name to their desired players list by now. Sharma has a base price of Rs 1.5 crore.
