Popular news channel CNN-IBN will give away 'Indian of the Year' award to the most-popular newsmaker of the country for his/her notable contribution to the society.
The channel has nominated many important personalities from various fields like entertainment, politics, business, sports and society in general. Noted personalities like K Chandrashekar Rao, P Vijayan, Sania Mirza, Salman Khan, Kangana Ranaut and others have found a spot in the 'Indian of the Year' nominee list.
Social media users have been asked to post their statuses with the respective hashtags of the nominees.
Kerala Armed Police battalion DIG P Vijayan IPS has been ranked top among the contestants with maximum supporters who have been posting their status message on Facebook with the hashtag #iotyPVijayan.
Vijayan was the brain behind the Student Police Cadet Project and has initiated several innovative schemes to promote education among poor children.
Voting ended on Saturday at 6.30pm.
