Pune, April 30 (ANI): The sudden ban by the European Union on the import of the luscious Alphonso and other varieties of mangoes which are in great demand worldwide, has hit hard on farmers of Maharashtra, who seek government action to rectify the situation. The 28-member European Union imposed the ban on Alphonso mangoes, known as the king of fruits after finding unwanted quarantine pests such as non-European fruit flies in some of the consignments. President of Pune market yard, Shivlal Bhosle said that this ban will result in a huge loss to farmers and traders. Along with the king of fruits, the vegetables banned are bitter gourd and eggplant. Mango trader, Raosaheb Kunjir said that the Government must take appropriate steps in the matter.
