Indian Super League 2015 (ISL) is less than a month away and the fans have been eagerly waiting to watch their favourite stars in action on the field. Meanwhile Adrian Mutu, who has been roped in by FC Pune City as their marquee player for the second edition of the ISL, felt that Indian footballers have great potential and he did not expect them to be so good.

The former Chelsea and Fiorentina man has set his focus on the ISL and wants to give his best for the Pune-based franchise in the upcoming edition of the ISL.

Mutu has not played competitive football for almost a year now and is looking forward to playing in ISL 2015.

"I had offers from a couple of European clubs but I chose FC Pune City. I am grateful to the president after what happened last year. I could not get to India on time and he behaved very well with me. I appreciate that. It was one of the reason why I chose to stick with FC Pune City," Mutu said in an interview to the Times of India.

"I didn't play for almost nine months but I have been working hard in training. The pre-season here (in Turkey) has helped a great deal. I know there is a lot of work ahead of me but I am sure I will be in good shape when the tournament starts next month," he said.

Mutu is also the joint-top international goalscorer for Romania with 35 goals with Gheorghe Hagi. The 36-year old was earlier banned from Fiorentina after he failed in an anti-doping test and that left a mark in his career. And now he is looking forward to set that record straight by delivering his best performance for FC Pune City in ISL 2015.

"All this is something of the past but I know it's going to follow me wherever I go for the rest of my life. There is no denying I made mistakes. But everyone makes mistakes, isn't it? Those days are all behind me. I am now focused on FC Pune City and the ISL, and I hope I will be in good shape at the end of it all to get a call from the national team," Mutu added.
