A 12-year-old Indian girl who inadvertently crossed over to the Pakistani side was handed over to Indian authorities on Monday.

Nasreen had reportedly crossed the Line of Control (LoC) between India and Pakistan on 26 December in the Haji Pir Sector, according to The Express Tribune. She was detained by Pakistani security personnel till her release on Monday.

The Pakistan armed forces said they returned the girl to Indian authorities as a 'goodwill gesture'.

The gesture comes even as the two nations are engaged in a stand-off over the 26/11 Mumbai attack accused Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, who is set to be released from a Pakistani jail, much to India's anguish.
