Ahmedabad/ Allahabad/ Shimla, Dec 01 (ANI): People across India took out rallies and made sand sculptures to spread awareness to mark 26th World AIDS Day on Monday. The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) that causes Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is spread via blood, semen and breast milk. There is no cure for the infection, but AIDS can be kept at bay for many years with cocktails of antiretroviral drugs. Scores of people in Ahmedabad city took to streets to spread awareness about the crippling disease. Project Director of the AIDS Control Society, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Umesh said that though there has been decline in new cases of HIV, patients still faced a lot of stigma due to less information. Meanwhile, sand artists in Allahabad city made sculptures on river bank of the Ganges, depicting causes and preventive measures of AIDS.
