Now that "The Vampire Diaries" star Ian Somerhalder and his fiancée Nikki Reed have confirmed their engagement, the next big event would be their wedding; and one question on everyone's mind is whether the couple will invite the actor's ex-girlfriend - Nina Dobrev.

Dobrev and Somerhalder fell in love shortly after meeting on the sets of "The Vampire Diaries" in 2009, but their romance did not last long. Although they called it quits in 2013, the pair remained friendly and did not allow broken hearts to come in the way of their professional lives. The great on-screen chemistry of Damon and Elena, the characters essayed by Somerhalder and Dobrev respectively, is a proof of that.

However, ever since Somerhalder started dating "Twilight" actress Reed, there have been reports of friction between Dobrev and Somerhalder, and rumours even suggested that Dobrev threatened to walk out of the drama if Reed kept visiting filming locations to hang out with Somerhalder.

As for the Reed-Somerhalder wedding, the couple is yet to announce a date. But fans are eager to know if Dobrev will be invited or not.

"It's a very weird predicament for Ian and Nikki," a source told HollywoodLife. "If it is a big wedding Ian feels that he has to ask Nina to go, but anticipates her to respectfully decline. That would be a win win."

As there is no guarantee that Dobrev will decline the invitation, the pair has been forced to look into alternatives, the source added.

"They may actually dodge future awkwardness by having a very intimate wedding with just family and then they can make the excuse that they didn't invite any cast members. One thing for sure is that it is a problem they are definitely trying to figure out," the source said.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the newly-engaged couple is planning a pre-wedding honeymoon to spice up their romance.

At the Sundance Film Festival "Nikki was gifted a trip to Aruba when she stopped into the Kari Feinstein Lounge presented by Aruba," a witness told Life & Style."She kept making sure the trip was for two, because she wanted a getaway with her future husband. She said they'd never been on vacation together, and this was a perfect first place to go!"
