A new prototype of Hyundai's upcoming compact SUV ix25 has been spied undergoing testing in the country, giving more hints about the upcoming model.

Spotted in Chennai where South Korean maker has its manufacturing plant, by folks at IndianCar Bikes, the test mule of ix25 was seen hiding beneath heavy camouflage; however, the spy shots clearly show the overall body proportion of the SUV.

Hyundai ix25, the model slated to be launched in India during the festival season this year, will not get excise duty benefit in the country, as the model does not fall under the sub-4 metre category.

Although the camouflage on the test mule hides key details of the ix25 from eagle-eyed spy photographers, it is assumed that the India-specific version of ix25 will share lots of similarities with its international counterparts.

Hyundai has remained coy about its upcoming ix25 offering, but it is expected that the model will feature central console with audio controls, air con vents and climate controls, and is also likely to get all-wheel drive in India.

As for engine, online rumours suggest 1.6 litre petrol and diesel units for the India-bound SUV. In the international market, ix25 is sold with 1.6- and 2.0-litre petrol engines coupled with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, with the choice of front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive.

Once it hits Indian market, Hyundai ix25 will be pitted against Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Nissan Terrano.

The model is likely to be sold in in the price range of ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh.

Meanwhile, Hyundai's next big ticket i20 Active, a crossover based on the company's Elite i20 will see the light of the day in March in India. i20 Active been styled and designed at Hyundai Motor's Design Centre in Russelsheim, Germany and is likely to carry the same engines of Elite i20 in the form of 1.2 litre petrol engine and 1.4 litre CRDi diesel motor.
