In a humongous yet sad incident that hit the headlines on Wednesday, a hungry goat gave a rude shock to its owner after it chewed up currency notes worth Rs 66,000 that the man had kept in the pocket of his trouser.

The incident took place in Siluapur village in Kannauj district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday when Sarvesh Kumar Pal, a farmer, had kept the money in the pocket of his trousers. Later, Pal found the goat munching away the currency notes. Despite raising an alarm, he was able to save only two of the notes. Pal had kept the notes in the denomination of Rs 2000 to buy bricks for some construction work in his house.

Nonetheless, the farmer still loves his goat. "I was taking bath and the money was kept in the pocket of my trousers. Notorious for eating all kinds of paper products, the goat seized the chance to munch on its favourite food. What to do, my goat is like a child to me," said Pal while sporting a broad smile.

"Later, two notes wet in saliva could be retrieved in a damaged condition," he added.

As the word spread, villagers gathered at Pal's house to see the notorious goat. A few of them even clicked a selfie with the goat.

While some of the villagers including Pal and a few neighbours took it on a lighter note, some took the incident quite seriously.

"Some even suggested to take the goat to veterinarians and get some medicines to make the animal vomit and recover the lost money. Many asked me to sell the goat to a butcher as it has brought misfortune to us," said Pal.

Another neighbour even asked the farmer to hand over the goat to the police as it had committed a serious crime.

Meanwhile, Pal and his wife took a stand for the animal and said, "We can't be cruel to our pet. It is like our own child."
