It has been three months since HTC unveiled the 5.0-inch Butterfly S. Now, a new report has surfaced that the Taiwanese smartphone maker has already begun working on the next-generation model, dubbed 'Butterfly 2'.

Chinese website Eprice citing sources revealed that HTC's upcoming Butterfly 2 will boast of a 5.2-inch display with a water-resistant body and will come packed with the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor which can top a CPU speed close to 2.3GHz.

The sources also claimed that Butterfly 2 is likely to be launched in early 2014, around the same time when the Chinese lunar year begins. (first day of 'Year of Horse' is set begin on 31 January, 2014).

Details regarding key specifications of RAM, Operating System and camera specifications of HTC Butterfly 2 are still sill scarce. However, with more than three months left for the rumoured launch, more leaks are certain to tumble out of the Taiwanese company.

Earlier this month, HTC Butterfly S (16GB) made its debut in India for a whopping ₹52,428, making it the costliest smartphone to hit the market. It sports a 5.0-inch full HD Super LCD 3 screen with pixel density of 440 ppi (pixels per inch) and runs on Android v4.3 Jelly Bean OS powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor with 2GB RAM.

Like the flagship metal-clad HTC One, Butterfly S too features the 2.0-ultrapixel main camera and a 2.1-megapixel snapper on the front side.  

In related news, the HTC is touted to launch the much-anticipated HTC One Max phablet in mid-October. It is expected to sport a mammoth 5.9-inch full HD display and is also pegged to boast finger printscanner right below the camera module. Other specifications include 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor, 2GB RAM, v4.3 Jelly Bean OS and a ultrapixel main camera.
