Keeping to its promise, the US arm of HTC on Thursday confirmed that the company will commence Android Nougat update for its flagship smartphone HTC 10 from November 25.
Initially, the new software will be rolled out for the unlocked GSM models from Friday, whereas, the carrier-specific HTC 10 and One M9 models would get the Nougat update in early 2017, HTC USA said on Twitter.
With the announcement, HTC 10 becomes the third major non-Google smartphone brand to receive Android Nougat. Earlier in the month, LG G5 and Moto Z (and Z Force) received the new firmware.
For those unaware, Android Nougat brings night mode for reading, multi-window options, bundled notification, improved battery optimisation, performance tweaks, and various other value-added features to enhance users' experience.
If you have received a OTA (Over-The-Air) notification message for this update:
1. Select "Yes, I'm in".
2. After the software is downloaded, select "Install now".
3. After the software is installed, your phone will re-start automatically.
4. Your phone is now updated.
Since OTA process is carried out in phases, it will take a week or two to reach all corners of America, so readers are advised to show some patience for the update to arrive.
Users can also check for updates manually by going to Settings >> About Phone >> System Updates >> check for the new firmware.
As of now, there is no word on when HTC intends to release the Nougat update for One A9, but the device is most likely to get it around January. It has to be noted that HTC, during the launch of One A9, had promised to deliver the latest Android update within 15 days after Google's announcement. But, it has failed to keep its words.
