OnePlus 2's USB Type-C charging cable can only be used with the company's flagship device and not other devices as it may cause damage. Google's Benson Leung first revealed the flaw in OnePlus 2's charging cable and warned buyers of the potential harm it can do to third-party devices. As a result, OnePlus is offering refund to those who bought the USB Type-C charging cables for the sole purpose of using it for devices other than the OnePlus 2.

In an official blog post, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei admitted that the USB Type-C specs require a 56 k-ohms resistor but the company instead used a 10 k-ohm resistor in the OnePlus 2's charging cable.

"This could result in damage to the power source (third-party charger, USB port, etc.) if the device and power source do not have an internal mechanism to self-regulate the amount of power flowing to or from them," Pei said.

Pei went on to assure that the USB Type-C charging cable works flawlessly with the OnePlus 2. But if anyone purchased the charging cable separately to use it with other devices, he can apply for a refund on the company's website or get it from the company's repair centre. However, the cables included in the OnePlus 2 bundle are not eligible for refund.

If you are looking for a refund for your OnePlus USB Type-C charging cable, simply carry the cable along with its adaptor to the nearest OnePlus repair centre. After returning the item, the amount you paid for the cable will be refunded. This refund process is good for those living in India and China.

If you are living in North America or Europe, you can fill out a refund form and submit to OnePlus. The amount will be refunded through PayPal once the application is approved.

Refund requests will be accepted till 31 December, 2015.
