Honda Cars India Sales Up 88% in August

Riding on the back of the successful family car Amaze and the recently launched Mobilio MPV, Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), leading manufacturer of premium cars has recorded a growth of 88 percent in its domestic sales during the month of August.

Honda sold 16,758 units in August, as against the 8,913 units in the corresponding month last year. The company's small car Brio sales figure stood at 1,211 units last month, while its Amaze and City  sold 9,198 units and 757 units respectively. Additionally, it sold 62 units of its sports utility vehicle (SUV) CRV. The export of the company stood at 460 units in August, taking the grand total of vehicles sold in August to 17,218.

In August, Honda sold 5,530 units of its newly launched Mobilio. The vehicle, a Maruti Ertiga killer is offered in petrol and diesel engine option. Under the hood, the car packs 1.5L i-DTEC diesel engine and 1.5 L i-VTEC petrol engine. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual transmission.

Recently, the Company's Amaze sedan sales crossed one lakh units in the country since its launch in April 2013. Honda Amaze is offered in both petrol and diesel options in the country. The company made its debut into the diesel segment in India with Amaze. The petrol variant of Amaze is powered by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine and gives a fuel efficiency of 18 kmpl.

Honda also said that the company will resume the production of its popular City from 1 September at the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan.

"We are extremely happy to witness consistent growth for Honda cars month after month. The festive season has already set-in and will bring further cheer to the market. We are geared up for strong sales in coming months," said Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd.
