'Happy New Year' becomes second highest grosserfacebook

Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer "Happy New Year" is slowly inching to the top spot at the domestic box office collection list of 2014.

The musical heist drama "Happy New Year", which is also called as "HNY", has taken the second spot at the box office list, by beating Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang" lifetime collection.

Farah Khan's directorial film minted around ₹3 crore from second Monday, which is its 11th day at the domestic box office. The film is expected to cash in more on Tuesday and Thursday in India, due to Muharram holiday and Guru Nanak's birthday respectively.

Considering the two holidays, "Happy New Year" is expected to earn around ₹40 crore in its second week.

In its second weekend, the film minted around ₹22.23 crore and on second Monday it minted approximately ₹3 crore. The ₹11 days total of the film now stands at ₹182.8 crore.

"The positive trends in collections across India show that the audience have loved 'Happy New Year' and the families have gone to the theatres to get fully entertained," Venky Mysore, CEO, Red Chillies Entertainment, said in a statement.

Exhibitors in India say that the film targets almost all age groups, which is why it's been doing well at the box office.

"The film, after completing seven-day run, became the most preferred for the families in the second weekend too. The number of Friday was bettered by Saturday, and Sunday was 40 percent better than Saturday - which only goes on to give the indication that families and people who couldn't catch the film in the first week came to the theatres," Anand Vishal, head (Sales and Operations), Fun Cinemas, told IANS.

"The film has held well again over the weekend with 60-65 percent occupancy," Anant Verma of DT Cinemas said.

Meanwhile, Amitabh Bachchan congratulated the team of "Happy New Year" including Shah Rukh and his son Abhishek Bachchan for the success of the film.

"WOW !! @HNY crosses 300 cr world wide .. congratulations SRK and Farah .. well deserved .. So Farah when do we work together ! Haha," he tweeted.
