Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle was a physician by profession. However, he is best known for his creation of fictional detective "Sherlock Holmes" that is considered as one of the most iconic characters in the history of literature.

Besides Sherlock Holmes, Conan Doyle is also known for creating another iconic character, Professor Challenger, and popularising the mystery of the Mary Celeste.
