Upcoming adult comedy "Great Grand Masti" (Masti 3) has reportedly been granted "A" certificate by the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal with some minor voluntary cuts, after the censor board's revising committee had denied certification to the movie.

The Central Board of Film Certification, headed by Pahlaj Nihalani, had earlier denied certification to "Great Grand Masti" for its alleged highly "vulgar" content. The makers of the movie had eventually approached the Tribunal that has reportedly overruled the censor board's decision.

While the censor board had recommended several major cuts in the movie, the Tribunal reportedly asked the makers of "Great Grand Masti" to just make some voluntary cuts.

"The Examining Committee had found many scenes and dialogues in 'Great Grand Masti' highly vulgar and objectionable. Rather than go to the Revising Committee, the makers of 'Great Grand Masti' went straight to the Tribunal appealing for a restoration of the cuts. The Tribunal asked to be shown three recent sex comedies 'Mastizaade,' 'Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3' and 'Grand Masti.' Based on the content that was allowed in these three sex comedies, the Tribunal restored most of the cuts in 'Great Grand Masti' and passed the film with an 'Adults' certificate," DNA quoted a source as saying.

"The makers were given the prerogative to take voluntary cuts. They made six-seven token cuts and came back to the Tribunal who passed the film without further ado," the source added.

The news comes soon after the certification controversy around "Udta Punjab" gathered headlines when the censor board recommended as many as 13 major cuts with "A" certificate to the movie. The makers of the film had fought a case against the board in the Bombay High Court, which announced its verdict in favour of the film makers.

Produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Indra Kumar, "Great Grand Masti" features the same male cast of Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani as in the earlier instalments of the 'Masti' series but has included Urvashi Rautela as the female lead. A trailer of "Great Grand Masti" was released recently. The film will hit the screens on July 22.
